At some point I understood that nothing here was meant to end.
Not the road. Not the effort. Not this motion that repeats itself under different names and demands the same body. Some paths exist only because stopping becomes impossible. They are not made for arrival, but for continuation.
The stone always returns.
Arrival never does.
Once this became clear, the weight did not lessen—it relocated. It settled into the body. The hands learned its surface. The shoulders memorized the angle where resistance begins. The body understood before the mind: there would be no culmination here, only repetition, only contact.
I continued, not from hope, not from belief in change, but from a discipline older than meaning. Each day the same ascent, the same calibrated force, the same pause before beginning again. Not rebellion. Not acceptance. Something harder than both: persistence without illusion.
In this cycle, something human eroded. What remained was rhythm. Function. Precision. Meaning did not wait at the top; it accumulated below, in the act itself, where feet press into the ground and breath shortens under weight.
If Sisyphus smiles, it is not joy, nor triumph—it is the expression of someone who no longer expects arrival.
Each day I begin again, not to alter the outcome, but to remain present within the repetition. Each attempt slightly adjusted, not to escape the pattern, but to survive it. The future learns nothing; the body remembers everything.
Continuing is not resistance.
Continuing is not hope.
Continuing is what remains when arrival has been removed.
Perhaps this is enough:
to know the stone will fall,
to feel it already falling in the wrists,
to know the summit offers no reply,
and still move forward,
without arrival.
